What Is KeyQuencer Lite?
KeyQuencer Lite is a utility that lets you create shortcuts, called macros, that perform a series of tasks with a single keystroke. Using KeyQuencer you can type your name, change your monitor’s colors, change the sound, connect to the Internet, or do just about anything—all with a keystroke.
What You Need to Begin
• A Macintosh (or compatible) computer running Mac OS 7.0 or higher. Mac OS 8 and 8.1 compatible.
• A hard disk drive with at least 2 MB free
• 4 or more megabytes of RAM
Before Installing…
If you are upgrading from KeyQuencer Lite 2.0 and using any third party KeyQuencer extensions—Be sure to move all your third party KeyQuencer commands out of the KeyQuencer Extensions before you run the installer. Otherwise, the Installer will delete them.
If you are upgrading from version 1.2—Follow these instructions to save your macros. Quit the Installer and do this now before proceeding or you will lose your macros!
1. Open the Preferences folder (inside your System Folder) and create a new folder there titled KeyQuencer Preferences.
2. Open the KeyQuencer control panel.
3. Open the Edit menu of the KeyQuencer control panel and choose Select All.
4. Open the File menu of the KeyQuencer control panel and choose Export Selected….
5. In the export dialog that appears, name the exported file “KeyQuencer Macros” and save it in the KeyQuencer Preferences folder that you created in step one above.
After this, run the Installer as usual and your macros will be preserved.
Installation
1. Disable any virus protection or disk security software before you begin.
2. Double-click the Install KeyQuencer Lite icon.
3. Click Install.
4. The KeyQuencer Installer will copy all necessary files to the appropriate locations. If you have an earlier version of KeyQuencer, the Installer will update all your old files (except, see notes above for 1.2 users). After installation is complete, you will see a dialog box with a Restart button. Click Restart.
5. Enable any virus protection or disk security software that was previously disabled.
7. KeyQuencer 1.2 users should manually find and remove the old Macro Editor FAT application since the Installer doesn't take care of it.
That's it! You are ready to begin using KeyQuencer Lite 2.5

What's New In KeyQuencer Lite 2.5?

Conflicts
We tested KeyQuencer 2.5 with as many extensions as possible for conflicts and have carefully followed all of Apple’s guidelines in writing KeyQuencer. If you should encounter a conflict, try restarting your computer with extensions off by holding down the Shift key at startup (you can release the Shift key when you see the message “Extensions Off” below “Welcome to Macintosh”). If this fixes the problem please let us know so we can try to resolve the conflict.

Unsupported Extensions
KeyQuencer 2.5 includes some unsupported KeyQuencer extensions: ADBLites, EnergyStar, FKey, HiliteColor, MouseButton, OMOpen, and ShowClock. These extensions are included either for backwards compatibility with KeyQuencer 1.2, or because they are only of interest to a very small number of users, or because they are “tweaky.” They are all located in the Unsupported (Disabled) folder inside the KeyQuencer Extensions folder (inside the System Folder). To enable them, just rename the folder to “Unsupported” and restart your computer.
NOTE: Here’s what we mean by “unsupported”: if you have a problem with them, you’re on your own!
Here are some specific notes on each of them:
ADBLights—This extension lets you turn on or off the lights on your ADB keyboard for num lock, caps lock, and scroll lock. It doesn't actually set these things, just turns the light on. If you find a use for this command, please let us know!
EnergyStar—This extension lets you turn on or off your Energy Star-compliant monitor. Since it does not work on certain Macintosh models, and we couldn’t get any help from Apple, we abandoned it. Most of its functionality can be duplicated with the PowerBook extension.
FKey—This extension lets you execute an FKey from within KeyQuencer. Since FKeys are a seldom used holdover from System 6, we figured we didn’t need this extension anymore. That is, until one of our rabid beta-testers complained when we tried to remove it (you know who you are!). So here it is!
HiliteColor—This extension lets you change the system hilite color. It does not change the appearance of any open windows, and the color is reset at next restart.
MouseButton—This extension lets you simulate a mouse button with a keystroke. In other words, you can use it to make Command-M your mouse button. Thus, holding down Command-M would behave exactly as holding down your mouse button. Since this is a little tweaky, we decided not to support it. However, it should work on Mac OS versions up to Mac OS 8.
OMOpen—This extension lets you execute an OtherMenu external from within KeyQuencer. It works fine, but is unsupported because it is useful only to users who also run OtherMenu.
ShowClock—This extension shows the current time (as you could guess from its title). KeyQuencer 2.5 does this using the Message command and escape sequences. ShowClock works fine, it’s included for backwards compatibility with version 1.2.
